Meet Kayla Brown-Dixon.

I’m a Midwestern Black woman from who knows firsthand what it’s like to struggle with depression and anxiety. Over time, I discovered that one of the most comforting and healing outlets for me has been art — especially writing.

As I began sharing my personal experiences with mental health, self-love, and healing, I realized it wasn’t just helping me — it was helping others feel less alone. This journey can be incredibly isolating, and while I don’t have all the answers, I deeply believe in the power of allyship, honesty, and speaking out.

I’m not a therapist — I’m a storyteller, advocate, and creative who shares her truth so others, especially young Black women, can feel seen and supported. Through writing, art, and real conversation, I aim to create space for healing, reflection, and community.

Whether through poetry, blog posts, or storytelling, my work is rooted in honest, creative expression. Writing remains the foundation of my practice, and I’m gradually exploring additional artistic avenues as part of my evolving creative journey.

Professionally, I’ve spent years working as a grant writer and communications specialist for nonprofits. Whether it’s grant proposals, blog content, or creative copy, I bring the same belief to every project: that words can heal, liberate, and transform lives.

“I’ve never felt that fear is my enemy. Fear is my friend. It offers me a chance to stay alert, keep growing, continue creating something new. If you don’t take that sort of risk, you learn nothing”
